The temple was silent, but it didn't feel empty. Stone dragons guarded the entrance, their mossy eyes staring at Maya.
"The box should be under the main altar," Maya whispered.
They stepped inside. The air was cool and smelled of incense. Maya found the altar and looked for a keyhole. Instead, she found a small, round indentation in the stone.
"The lens!" Jack realized.
Maya placed the glass lens into the stone. Suddenly, a beam of sunlight hit the lens, and a map appeared on the floor, made of light and shadow. It pointed to a loose stone in the corner. Behind the stone was a small, iron-bound chest.
Maya used the golden key. Click. The lid creaked open. Inside wasn't gold or jewels, but a single, ancient scroll and a small jade statue of a dragon.
"We found it," Maya breathed.
"Yes, you did," a voice boomed from the doorway. Marcus Thorne walked in, holding a pistol. Beside him was the mercenary from the train. "And now, you're going to give it to me".
